Evidence City is an outdoor mystery game. This page explains what we hold about
you, why, and how to get rid of it.
Your account. Sign-in is handled by Clerk. We store the account
identifier they give us, and — if you fill them in — a display name and a
short bio. We never see your password.
Your play. While you are playing we keep a game session: which station
you have reached, items collected, notes you have written, hints used and
time taken. Sessions expire automatically 48 hours after they start.
How a finished run went. When you finish a case we keep a summary of it
so we can tell which puzzles are too hard: how long it took, how many hints
you took, which stations you gave up on or ran out of time at, and how much
time that cost. This one outlives the session. It records counts, not
contents — how many items you collected, not which; your notes are never
part of it and go with the session after 48 hours.
Your location, while you play. A station can unlock when you reach a
place. Your position is read by your own device to check that distance and
is not sent to us or stored. You can decline the permission and unlock
stations manually instead.
Your camera, in two kinds of puzzle. A couple of puzzles ask you to point
your camera at something — a marker to decode, or a light to read. Your browser
asks permission first and you can refuse. What the camera sees is examined
frame by frame on your own device: nothing is recorded, no photo or video
is kept, and no image is ever sent to us. Refusing means those particular
puzzles cannot be finished, and most cases never use them at all.
Scores and reviews. If you choose to appear on a leaderboard, your
display name, time and score are shown publicly. Reviews you write are
public alongside your display name.
Diagnostics. When something breaks we record the error, a short trail
of what you did just before, and an anonymous crash reference so support
can find it.
We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not
track you across other sites.
Paid cases are handled by Stripe. Card details go to Stripe and never reach
our servers; we keep only the record that a purchase happened.
You can turn off leaderboard listing at any time in Settings, and edit or
delete your review from the story page.
You can delete your whole account yourself, from Account at the bottom of
the page — it happens immediately and cannot be undone. What goes and what
stays is spelled out there and on the delete your account
page, which you can read without signing in. If you cannot get into your
account, write to the address on the contact page and we will do it for you.
